Artist Statement
When I am painting, I feel "balanced" - just thinking about it makes me happy.
I am a self taught painter, For years I painted solely with Latex House paint, but switched to Acrylic paint 6 years ago.
I studied Acting for years. With acting, I learned to respect the “subtext”; the things unwritten in the script, but which are no less important to your character and their story. When I am painting - especially an animal,
a story emerges, the life that has been lived, inside and outside. My imagination runs wild ...whole worlds are born. I get attached. The hardest part of painting for me is letting go - of the product, of perfection, of needing to know the end of the story. But I guess that is a hard part fo life too.
If I had to pinpoint my Style, or the through-line that carries through my work - it is color. I am moved by color. Color and Light. And what Light does to color. I notice it everywhere. In the grass. A Pink Sky. I love how one color can change the direction of a whole day. I am moved by that magic that happens when one color sits next to another color and they bring out something amazing in each other...like good friends.
On the horizon - perhaps I will explore portraits of people - I am always evolving as an Artist - and someday -
I'd love to open a Gallery for local Artists. So I can paint and talk Art and light and color with my friends all day long. Pets will definitely be allowed and encouraged.
