When I am painting I feel balanced. Just thinking about it makes me happy.
I am a self taught painter. I studied acting for years. With acting, I learned to respect the subtext...the things unwritten in the script - but no less important to your character. When I am painting an animal or a barn, a story emerges in my mind, the life that has been lived, inside and outside. My imagination runs wild...whole worlds are born...and I get attached. The hardest part of painting for me is letting go but then I guess that is a hard part of life too.
If I had to pinpoint my style or that through-line that carries through my work...it is probably color. I am moved by color, kind of obsessed by it really and mezmerized by what it does to the heart. I love how one color can change the direction of a whole day.. A pink sky. The way it gets really green in the evening. That magic that happens when one color sits next to another color and they each bring something amazing out in eachother...like a good friend. Some people contemplate what they will make for dinner...I think about "What colors need to meet next?"
My hope is that my paintings take you someplace that only you know. I feel that my work is successful if - for even a second - you are transported to someplace only you know in your heart.
On the horizon: I am itching to begin doing abstract human portrait work...I am still evolving as an artist. I kind of hope I never stop.
